Westbrook, Sheppard Report; Shawn Andrews a No-Show

Football, NFL, NFC East, Philadelphia Eagles, Brian Westbrook, Lito Sheppard, Breaking News

That's just the way it has felt like this tumultuous Eagles off season. One thing ends, something else begins: Randy Moss signs with the Patriots, the Eagles go after Larry Fitzgerald. Two big potential problems are solved in Brian Westbrook and Lito Sheppard reporting to camp, and now Shawn Andrews is nowhere to be seen.

On the bright side of it, it looks like at least two Eagles stars who are unhappy with their contracts have reported and should both have great seasons. True, both players will play with a chip on their shoulder unless rewarded with the money they think they deserve, but hey, at least they're here! No media circus after all.

Now, with Eagles' Pro-Bowl right guard out, it seems that the Eagles aren't in the clear after all.

Said ProFootballTalk.com just hours before the news broke:

Andrews is another one of the young Eagles players who signed an early-career contract that extends into the next decade. In Andrews’ case, he’s signed through 2015.

The first-round pick in the 2004 draft is due to earn a base salary of $2.98 million in 2008. And if he thinks that’s too low, he’ll be really pissed off in 2009, when his base salary drops to $750,000.

The latest reports, however, have Shawn Andrews out because of personal issues. Andrews' agent is said to have contacted the Eagles about this, although it is still unclear if the absence was or was not excused by the team. As of now, it is still unclear when or if he will report at all.

Makes you wonder whether going out and paying Asante Samuel $57.14 million for six years was really such a great idea....
