Training Camp Update (July 22)

The long awaited Day One of training camp is finally in the books, and there were a few notable story lines and other snippets of news that surfaced today.

  • Donovan McNabb threw the ball accurately and effortlessly, showing no ill-effects from his shoulder tendinitis injury during mini-camps.
  • DT Trevor Laws, DE Bryan Smith, and CB Jack Ikegwuono were placed on the PUP list (Active/Physically Unable to Perform). While Laws (foot) and Smith (hamstring) are expected to only miss a few days, Ikegwuono will most likely be placed on the Injured Reserve for the entire season due to a serious knee injury that he suffered in January while training for the NFL Combine.
  • Donovan McNabb said in a press conference this morning that it is his opinion Brian Westbrook will report to training camp this Thursday.
  • DeSean Jackson had a solid day -- nothing special in the morning, but noticeable improvement in the afternoon practice. He mainly ran out for slant passes.
  • Demps made the best defensive play of the day, picking off an A.J. Feeley pass, then showing impressive speed to get into the open with the ball in his hands.
  • Both Quintin Demps and DeSean Jackson returned punts.
  • Tight ends Brent Celek and Michael Gasperson, the only two TEs present, both had good days. Celek had the moves, while Gasperson caught nearly everything that was thrown to him.
