Training Camp Approaching -- Eagles News Quiets Down

NFL, NFC East, Philadelphia Eagles, Editorial
It's that time of year again, these four to five weeks of little or no activity form the Eagles, sports talk and chatter flying around on possible trade moves or predictions for the upcoming season, as the countdown to training camp continues to tick down steadily like the heartbeat of the Eagles' fan base.

For once, the Phillies are in first place going into the All-Star break, the 76ers just signed free agent Elton Brand, thereby creating that low-post presence that the team so desperately needed, and the Flyers came off an unexpected playoff run just one year after previously holding the undesirable position as the worst team in hockey. As for the Eagles...well--they haven't yet signed their two second round draft picks, including the elusive and much talked about PR/WR DeSean Jackson, but that should all fall in place before training camp. Other then that, they are basically set for the upcoming 2008 season.

And with the futile search for a true wide receiver at last coming to a sluggish end, how could can the Eagles be this season? Says Dave Spadaro of PhiladelphiaEagles.com:

Are the Eagles good enough to win it all? Yeah, I think so. They have a defense that certainly seems to have every piece in place. The line is deep and talented. The linebackers are young and talented. The secondary has superb front-line players and quality depth.

...Which sounds great, until you consider: Doesn't this dude say that every year?

Then again, you never know with the Eagles. They always seem to be surprising us (mostly in bad ways, unfortunately), but with the current pieces in place, you never know. They might just make that deep playoff run like the 2007 Giants!

Or not.

Oh well! I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
